Floyd “Bud” King
Oskaloosa native Duane King bought his first D-7 Caterpillar for soil conservation work in 1954. From this humble beginning, King’s Construction Co. Inc. has grown through the hard work and dedication of the King family and their employees. Duane's brother, Floyd, joined him in 1959 and the business became King Brothers Construction until Duane retired in 1981. Floyd’s sons, Dan and Kent, who have worked in the business since the 1970’s, officially, became partners with Floyd in 1987 when the organization incorporated.
With King’s Construction nearing its 60th Anniversary, the business currently employs 60 workers and operates over 100 pieces of earth-moving equipment. Through the years, King’s has expanded into underground work, concrete, and federal and state work. Major projects include the Overland Park soccer fields, I-70 Lecompton interchange, Rock Chalk Sports Complex, Emilia Earhart Bridge Reconstruction, Berry Plastics, South US 59 Highway, and many others.
Dan and Kent are committed to staying true to their roots. Delivering rock, grading, building ponds and terraces for local farmers, landowners, and watersheds are important projects and carried out with the same level of professionalism and attention to detail as larger projects.
With another generation working hard in the business, Dan and Kent both encourage their children to stay involved and carry on the family tradition of King’s Construction Co. Inc.
